Brief Biography of Seiji Chokai (1902–1972)
・1902: Born in Suma Village, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
・1924: First exhibited at the 2nd Shun'yō-kai Exhibition with "Western Woman" and "Hiratsuka Landscape."
・1930: Traveled to Paris, France; later visited Algeria and Spain, studying works by Goya and Rembrandt.
・1933: Returned to Japan and became a member of the Shun'yō-kai.
・1943: Joined the Independent Art Association (Dokuritsu Bijutsu Kyōkai), where he continued to exhibit until his death.
・1957: Participated in the 4th São Paulo Biennale; his work "Gourds" was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York. ​
