Shigejiro Sano (1900–1987)
Biography
1900 — Born into the Kobaien family, a traditional brush and ink merchant in Semba, Osaka.
1924 — Studied under Narashige Koide at the Shinanobashi Western Painting Institute.
1929 — Selected for the first time for the Nika Exhibition with Desk and Bright Room.
1931 — Received the Chogyu Prize at the Nika Exhibition.
1937 — Traveled to France, studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, and learned under Henri Matisse.
1947 — Participated in the founding of the Niki-kai Association.
1987 — Passed away at the age of 87.
