堀内 正和

HORIUCHI Masakazu Biography (1911 - 2001)

1911: Born in Kyoto, Japan.

1928: Entered the Sculpture Department of Tokyo Higher School of Arts and Crafts.

1929: Selected for the Nika Exhibition for the first time and subsequently devoted himself to abstract sculpture.

1950: Appointed Professor at Kyoto Municipal College of Fine Arts (now Kyoto City University of Arts).

1954: Began creating geometric abstract sculptures using welded steel and became a pioneer of abstract sculpture in Japan.

1963: Received the 6th Kotaro Takamura Award for Sea Wind.

1969: Won the Grand Prize at the 1st International Sculpture Exhibition of The Hakone Open-Air Museum.

2001: Passed away from pneumonia at the age of 90.
