Biography of Shigejiro Sano (1900–1987)

  • 1900: Born in Semba, Osaka, into the family of a brush and ink merchant.

  • 1924: Studied under Narashige Koide at the Shinanobashi Western Painting Institute.

  • 1929: Debuted at the Nika Exhibition with works “Desk” and “Bright Room”.

  • 1931: Received the Chogyu Prize at the Nika Exhibition.

  • 1958: Illustrated and designed the Japanese edition of “Les Carnets du Major Thompson” by Pierre Daninos.
